In 1984, a new style of Chinese Restaurant arrived in Los Angeles;
the Mandarette Chinese Cafe. Our Restaurant was the first to introduce
Chinese home style cooking into a contempary cafe environment. Upon our
opening, the Los Angeles Times commented "Mandarette is fun, fast and fanciful...
A pop in pop out, pre or post anything kind of place".
M.S.G. is not added at Mandarette. We use minimal corn starch and we
cook with very little oil for a lighter-tasting meal. We believe our style
of cooking to be healthier. At Mandarette we feature both classic and innovative
Chinese dishes from the various regions of China. We purchase only the
freshest, highest quality ingredients from local markets to being you the
tastes of China.
Chinese dinning is the original "family style" meal enjoyed communally
with everyone helping themselves to portion of each dish. The meal is a
celebration to be enjoyed by all present. A well balanced meal comprises
the five basic tastes of Chinese cuisine; acid, hot bitter, sweet and salty.
Texture should vary between simple and sauced, crisp and tender. Alternate
a tender, steamed dish with a crispy, fried one. After meat, order fish.
Follow a spicy dish with a fresh, natural taste. Feel free to ask your
server for advice in selecting your meal or even allow them to order for
you. If you find that there is an item that you enjoy that is not on our
menu feel free to ask, we will do our best to accommodate you request.
We also have a large selection of beer and wine to compliment our various
dishes.
